Sustainability Management: Presenting a Paradigm Model of Sustainable Higher Education Development in Mazandaran Public Universities

Abstract

The contribution that higher education plays in institutionalizing the dimensions of sustainable development and as a sustainable university in people's lives is essential. The main purpose of this study is to present a paradigm model of sustainable higher education development in Government universities of Mazandaran province as sustainability management. The research method is qualitative and Data Foundation Theory (Grounded Theory). A purposive sample consisting of 10 faculty members and experts in the field of higher education was selected as a research sample. Research data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Strauss and Corbin coding method. Findings indicate that the 6 components of sustainable education, sustainable research, sustainable community-based services, sustainable environment, sustainable management and sustainable economy are considered as the main components of higher education as a sustainable organization. Also, in the field of causal factors 4 components of social change, change in development paradigm, change in value systems and environmental crises, in the field of underlying factors 3 components of internal cohesion and dynamism, stakeholder participation and systemic management, in the field of intervening factors 3 political intervening factors. Economic, administrative and legal, in the field of effective strategies, three strategies of education and research, public participation and university management system were identified as factors and strategies for the development of sustainable higher education in public universities in Mazandaran province. It is social, economic and environmental development.
