Abstract

Business process reengineering, as one of the most important approaches to organizational transformation, plays an effective role in improving efficiency, improving service quality, and increasing the agility of organizations. However, the success of implementing reengineering programs in higher education institutions is affected by several factors, the recognition and analysis of the relationships between which are of particular importance for university administrators. This study is applied in terms of purpose and mixed (qualitative-quantitative) in terms of method. In the first stage, the factors affecting the success of business process reengineering were extracted through meta-synthesis of previous studies. Then, using the opinions of experts from the University of Mazandaran, the identified factors were validated and finalized. Subsequently, interpretive structural modeling and MICMAC analysis were used to analyze the relationships between factors.Support and commitment of senior management, organizational culture supporting change, strategic alignment of IT with organizational goals, and a clear vision for organizational transformation were identified as the most important driving factors. Also, factors such as employee training and empowerment, stakeholder participation, change management, and continuous improvement play a decisive role in the success of implementing reengineering programs. The findings of the study show that the success of business process reengineering at the University of Mazandaran and other higher education institutions in the country requires an integrated approach to managerial, human, organizational, and technological dimensions.
